Ground Breaking Ceremony
SPLK achieved an important milestone with the ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony which took place at the project site on the 3rd of October 2019. This important and exciting milestone marks the commencement of the construction of the Kivu56 Methane Gas to Power Project and has been achieved through the culmination of hard work, willingness, and persistence of the SPLK team. In attendance at the celebratory event were dignitaries, representatives of government and local government officials, representatives from the military and police forces, Project contractors, media, staff, friends, and supporters.
Guests heard remarks from SPLK CEO Mr. Alexis Kabuto, SPLK Investor Lord Irvine Laidlaw, Eng. Patricie Uwase, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Infrastructure and Governor of Western Province Mr. Alphonse Munyetwari. It was announced during these statements the project has achieved various important milestones over the past few months, the most noteworthy of which is the name change from Symbion Power Lake Kivu to Shema Power Lake Kivu and the issuing of the Construction Permit for the Kivu56 Plant.
Following the speeches, the ground on the site was ceremoniously turned by SPLK CEO Mr. Alexis Kabuto, SPLK Investor Lord Irvine Laidlaw, Eng. Patricie Uwase, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Infrastructure and Governor of Western Province Mr. Alphonse Munyetwari. With the ground officially broken on the project, construction will now move forward expeditiously, with expected project completion and handover in the first quarter of 2022. As the construction proceeds, SPLK will continue to provide updates on our progress.
